Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry during the attack on Peronne, 1 September, 1918, as a runner. He repeatedly carried messages under intense fire, and also assisted in bringing in wounded. He volunteered to go forward, and was able to bring back important information. His energy and coolness were a fine example.'
