Enlisted at Lismore, New South Wales, 6 January 1916. Embarked from Australia, 31 March 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 25 July 1916; taken on strength of 25th Bn, 8 August 1916.

Admitted to hospital (pleurisy), 8 March 1917; rejoined unit, 10 March 1917. Admitted to hospital (mumps), 17 March 1917; transferred to Ambulance Train, and admitted to Corps Mumps Station, 13 April 1917; transferred to 15th Field Ambulance, 16 June 1917; re-admitted to Corps Mumps Station, 16 June 1917; rejoined unit, 20 June 1917.

To England on leave, 6 September 1917; returned from leave, 18 September 1917. Detached for duty at 12th Battery, 4th Field Artillery Brigade, 20 October 1917; transferred to and taken on strength of HQ, 2nd Australian Division, 20 October 1917. Ceased to be attached to 4th Field Artillery Brigade, 1 June 1918. Detached for duty to 12th (Army) Field Artillery Brigade, 2 June 1918.
