Wounded in action, Belgium, 4 October 1917 (gun shot wound, chest: penetrating), and admitted to 3rd Field Ambulance; transferred to St John Hospital, Etaples, 5 October 1917; to England, 21 October 1917, and admitted to Fort Pitt Central Military Hospital, Chatham; transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 27 October 1917; discharged on furlough, 12 November 1917, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 26 November 1917.

Marched out to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 8 April 1918.

Proceeded overseas to France, 1 May 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 6 May 1918.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 2 July 1918 (shrapnel wound, left leg); admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, 3 July 1918, and transferred to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to 3rd Canadian General Hospital, Boulogne, 3 July 1918; to No 7 Convalescent Depot, 26 July 1918; discharged to Base Depot, Havre, 2 August 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 16 August 1918.
