Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack of PERONNE on 2nd September 1918. When his Coy. in passing through PERONNE came under a heavy barrage of H.E. and gas, he took messages to Bn. H.Qrs. Later when the Coy. got into position, he again went a number of times through the barrage with messages to H.Qrs., rejoining his Coy. under heavy M.G. and rifle fire. His zeal and successful running were of great service in maintaining touch between Coy. and Bn. H.Qrs. He set a wonderful example of coolness and courage under very trying circumstances.'
