Military Medal Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 1 Date: Bar to Military Medal 'During the attack on PERONNE on the 1st September 1918, this N.C.O. had charge of a Lewis Gun and was all through in the van of the attack, and used his gun with great skill and bravery on numerous occasions, neutralising enemy opposition at the critical moment. When out of touch with all others he, with his team(two men) saw a party of 30 Germans with a machine gun holding up the advance on the left flank. He immediately advanced and engaged them, killing four, wounding two, taking one prisoner and putting the remainder to flight. In the 5 p.m. operation he advanced with great gallantry, capturing another machine gun on the way before he was wounded. Throughout, he showed great personal bravery and was an excellent example to others.'
