Military Medal 'Courage and disregard of personal danger were prominently shown by this man during the operations on morning of 19th May, 1918 at VILLE-SUR-ANCRE near ALBERT. When the mopping-up party was held up by enemy strong post in the village he crept up to the house under cover of Lewis gun fire: he was fired on repeatedly but kept on and succeeded in throwing bombs into the house. His brave work was mainly responsible for driving the enemy garrison out of this position.'
