Military Medal 'At NOREUIL on 2nd April, 1917 when acting as Lewis Gunner was badly wounded in the hand during the advance but pressed forward hanging on to his ammunition panniers and getting them into the front line. There he assisted in consolidating. He dug for three hours when his wound became too bad to work any more. He then took over the position of observer in a most dangerous part of the line and stuck there under continual rifle and Machine Gun fire till his Company was relieved.'
