Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On our advance being held up by machine gun fire from a shell hole, he was instrumental in bringing the fire of several rifles and machine guns to bear on the hostile gun. The position was then rushed, and in the shell hole four guns were captured. On the objective being gained, he accomplished splendid work during the consolidation, and set a fine example of coolness and cheerfulness to the men.'e
