Military Cross 'During operations near Peronne, on the 31st August 1918, he led twenty men over 200 yards of exposed ground and cleared the enemy, who were threatening the flank of another battalion, from an entrenched position, disposing of the whole garrison, about forty in number. Later, although exposed to snipers and machine gun fire, he advanced alone, cut a passage through a belt of wire, and led his men through to the attack. His leadership, dash, and courage were beyond praise.'
