'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was badly wounded by an enemy bombs, but, in spite of his injuries, he remained at his post directing operations until his platoon had begun to consolidate their positions, and had got in touch with the unit on their flank. His example of determination and endurance had a great effect on his men.'
