Military Medal 'On 1st October, 1918, during the attack on ESTREES this man did excellent work and displayed splendid initiative, gallantry and devotion as a Company Scout. Accompanied by one man, and the the face of intense machine gun fire, he succeeded in working his way into the Village and obtained information which enabled the Company to effect an entry with comparatively few casualties. Later on he moved forward as a Scout to the main body and succeeded in capturing a post and two prisoners. Throughout the operation he rendered very valuable service in obtaining reliable information. He was untiring in his efforts, displaying much bravery, and set a fine example to the other men.'
