Embarked Melbourne, 1 April 1916; disembarked Suez, 12 May 1916. Transferred to 59th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 24 May 1916.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 21 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 30 June 1916.

Admitted to 38th Casualty Clearing Station, 1 December 1916 (trench feet); transferred by Ambulance Train to 22nd General Hospital, Camiers, 8 December 1916; to England, 10 December 1916, and admitted same day to 1st Southern General Hospital, Birmingham. Discharged on furlough, 23 April 1917, to report to Training Depot, Wareham, 8 May 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 28 June 1917; rejoined Bn, 26 August 1917.
