'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When the Platoon was held up by artillery and machine gun fire, the commander being killed and serveral others wounded, this N.C.O. grasped the situation, reorganizing the platoon, and arranged for the evacuation of the wounded. His coolness and resources reduced casualties and insured an unbroken line'
