'On 14th and 15th May 1917 near Noreuil between A.C.S. and A..D.S., this Driver displayed conspicuous courage and coolness whilst driving his ambulance wagon. He was constantly under heavy shell fire, especially during the night, and his wagon was struck by shell fragments. By his skilful driving and marked coolness he greatly helped his Wagon Orderly to get the patients away with all speed and care under most trying circumstances.'
