Military Medal 'For gallant conduct and leadership at METEREN on the 23rd April, 1918. Sergeant ADAMS led his platoon with great ability in attempting to mop up the village during the assault after his platoon commander had been wounded. He succeeded in keeping his men together and checked any inclination to retire in the face of a withering machine gun fire. By means of well-directed covering fire he was able to assist in the recovery of many of the wounded out in front. His leadership was splendid and his example had a great effect on his men.'
