'On the morning of 4th July, 1918 during the attack North East of VILLERS BRETONNEUX the line was held up in one place by heavy enemy Machine Gun fire. Seeing this Sergeant CRAWFORD immediately rushed forward, rallied the men near him, and with a small party rushed the position and captured the gun, thus preventing many casualties.'
