Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in charge of an isolated front line post, which was blown in by hostile shell fire three times during the course of the day. On each occasion he mustered his men, re-dug and consolidated the position setting a stirring example to those under him. The post was a most important one, and it was due to the courage and determination of this N.C.O. that the garrison was able to hold on.'

When his section was held up by a nest of Machine Guns he showed great courage and initiative in overcoming their resistance. On reaching the final objective Corporal DALE remained in command of the Platoon; he thereupon reorganised it and supervised its consolidation. Throughout the attack his work was of the very highest order and canot be spoken of too highly.'
