Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, during an enemy attack. By bombing from a very exposed position he checked the enemy, and inspired his comrades by his courage. L:ater, when all his officers had become casualties, he took command, and displayed splendid judgment and leadership under the most trying circumstances.'
