Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. He led his platoon with great dash and ability, and dumped the load of wire with which he was in-trusted at the central strong point. Then, finding there was no one on the final objective in front of him, he led his platoon forward, and skilfully encompassed the position, capturing seven prisoners, two trench mortars, and killing the remainder. After he had successfully turned the captured mortars on the enemy, he was withdrawn, and dug in on the support line. He set a splendid example throughout.'
