Embarked on HT 'Ivernia' for Gallipoli, 4 September 1915.

Admitted to 7th Field Ambulance, Gallipoli Peninsula, 8 December 1915 (sciatica); transferred to 13th Casualty Clearing Station, 10 December 1915, and proceeded to Heliopolis on HS 'Gantully Castle'; admitted to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Heliopolis, 14 December 1915; transferred to Convalescent Depot, Helouan, 3 January 1916; discharged to duty, 23 January 1916; marched into Overseas Base, Gezireh, 23 January 1916; marched into Details Camp, Moascar, 5 February 1916. Transferred to unit through Zeitoun, 10 February 1916; rejoined unit, Moascar, 6 March 1916.

Embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force.

Admitted to 1st Field Ambulance, 29 July 1916 and transferred to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station; to 32nd Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 31 July 1916 (gun shot wound, right knee). Embarked Boulogne on HS 'Cambria', 3 August 1916, and admitted to County of London War Hospital, Epsom (shrapnel wound, right knee, severe); transferred to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 29 January 1917; to 2nd Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 5 June 1917.

Found guilty, 13 June 1917, of drunkenness, 11 June 1917: awarded an admonishment; granted furlough, 5 July 1917; returned to 2nd Auxiliary Hospital from furlough, Southall, 21 July 1917; discharged to duty, 28 July 1917. Admitted to 2nd Auxiliary Hospital, 4 October 1917; granted furlough, 6 October 1917; returned to hospital, 20 October 1917; discharged to depot, 1 November 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on HT 'Anchises', 1 November 1917; disembarked Fremantle, 25 December 1917. Discharged Perth, 4 April 1918.
