Proceeded to France from 13th Training Bn, England, 23 September 1916; marched in to No 4 Australian Division Base Depot, Etaples, 24 September 1916; assigned to 31st Bn, Etaples, 7 October 1916; taken on strength, 31st Bn, 9 October 1916.

Admitted to 15th Australian Field Ambulance, 4 February (frost bite); transferred to No 5 Division Rest Station, 4 February 1917; to 45th Casualty Clearing Station, 16 February 1917; to No 3 Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 18 February 1917; to No 2 Convalescent Depot, 19 February 1917; transferred for treatment in England, 27 February 1917.

Embarked Havre on HS 'Panama', 28 February 1917; admitted to No 3 Southern General Hospital, Oxford, 28 February 1917 (frost bite, right foot); discharged to Training Depot, Wareham, 24 April 1917. On furlough, 24 April to 9 May 1917.

Admitted to 16th Field Ambulance, Wareham, 25 May 1917 (venereal disease), transferred to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 26 May 1917; discharged to training depot, 11 June 1917.
