'During operations Eat of VILLE-sur-ANCRE, South West of ALBERT, this N.C.O. showed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on the night of 3rd/4th July 1918. Sergeant EALES led two sections to the objective, capturing two machine guns and killing their crews on the way. He set a splendid example to his men when consolidating the position by his coolness and cheerfulness, working hard himself and all the time encouraging his men.'
