Proceeded overseas to France through Southampton, 24 November 1916; marched into 3rd Divisional School, 25 March 1916; moved out to unit, 1 April 1917. Admitted to 12th Australian Field Ambulance, 10 June 1917 (gun shot wound, leg); discharged to duty, 18 June 1917; appointed to rank of Lance Corporal, 14 July 1917. Admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance, 2 August 1917; discharged to duty, 4 August 1917; rejoined unit, 10 August 1917. Admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance, 15 August 1917 (ventral hernia); transferred to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station, 17 August 1917; to 7th Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, 19 August 1917.
