Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations against enemy positions south of the SOMME, east of HAMMEL, on 8th August, 1918. Lance Corporal FERGUSON was in charge of a section. During the attack on ACCROCHE WOOD when his platoon was help up by machine gun fire, he led a party of four men against the machine gun position which he bombed, killing three men and capturing six others with a heavy machine gun. Afterwards when his platoon Sergeant had been wounded he greatly assisted his platoon Commander in reorganising on the final objective. His initiative and bravery and cool action in meeting difficulty greatly inspired the men of his platoon.'
