Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on Roadwood on 31 August, 1918. He commanded the platoon, and led his men through the northern part of the wood, inflicting severe casualties, and capturing many prisoners. On clearing the wood, he overcame strenuous machine gun opposition by skilful use of his Lewis guns and rifle grenades, and reached his objective.'
