Proceeded from Alexandria to join Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, 5 April 1915; wounded in action, Gallipoli, 17 June 1915 (gun shot wound, both legs: shot by a sniper near Quinn's Post); admitted to HS 'Gascon', 17 June 1915; transferred to 17th General Hospital, Alexandria, 30 June 1915; embarked for England, 4 July 1915; admitted to No 3 London General Hospital, 20 July 1915; underwent operation for recrosed bone, 26 July 1915; transferred to Tooting Military Hospital, 29 September 1915; Leg shortened to extent of 2.25 inches.

Commenced return to Australia from England on board HT 'Suevic', 11 March 1916; disembarked Melbourne, 22 April 1916; discharged Melbourne, 19 July 1916 (medically unfit, shortening left lower limb consequent on gunshot injury to thigh with compound fracture of femur).

Re-enlisted at Melbourne, 21 February 1917 (allotted new service number 21092); interestingly, his weight had dropped to 125 lbs.

Embarked Melbourne on HMAT A71 'Nestor', 28 February 1918; disembarked Liverpool, England, 20 April 1918; marched into No 3 Camp, Parkhouse, 20 April 1918.

Proceeded overseas to France, 5 October 1918; marched into Royal Engineers Depot, Abbeville, 7 October 1918; taken on strength, 4th Divisional Signal Company, 10 October 1918.

Marched out for return to Australia, 10 May 1919; marched into No 4 Group, Hurdcott, 21 May 1919.

Commenced return to Australia froM England on board HT 'City of Exeter', 12 July 1919; disembarked, Melbourne, 24 August 1919; discharged, Melbourne, 16 September 1919 (medically unfit, old compound fracture of femur).
