Military Medal

'For his excellent work on the morning of 4th October, 1917, in operation against enemy positions East of YPRES when acting as a gun commander in the attack. His section Commander having been wounded and his sub-section Sergeant killed early in the attack, he at once took charge of the Sub-section and reported to Sgt. SAY what had happened, thus allowing him to take charge of the Section without delay. This N.C.O. remained in charge of the Sub-section till relieved on the night of 5th October. By his fine example and leadership he obtained the confidence of his men and his Sub-section had few casualties.'
