'For conspicuous galllantry and devotion to duty in supervising the work of investigation parties from 4th to 30th October 1918, during the advance from Harnes to Rongy and the Scheldt. Although over 1,200 mines or traps were removed or rendered harmless not one casualty occurred. He frequently carried out the work under shell fire in front of the advancing troops.'
