When the Anzac Mounted Division was formed, the service corps companies that had supported them were replaced by supply sections, as horse drawn transport was too slow in the sands of the Sinai. Notwithstanding the proven inability of such transport to keep up with the mounted troops, the shortage of mechanical transport led to the service companies being reformed in August 1917, absorbing the supply sections.
